Nick Saban provides latest injury update on Alabama TE Cam Latu after depth chart released

Alabama tight end Cam Latu has been sidelined with an undisclosed injury since early August.

The 6-5, 244-pounder isn’t listed on the Crimson Tide’s depth chart for its season opener against Utah State on Saturday, but Nick Saban offered a positive update Monday on Latu’s status, revealing that the senior tight end is set to return to practice and considered by medical staff as “day-to-day.”

Saban on Cam Latu, who isn't listed at TE on depth chart: He will start practicing today. Rehab went well, was on treadmill last week. He's day-to-day.

Latu proved to be a dangerous weapon a year ago for Alabama and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Bryce Young, as he caught 26 passes for 410 yards, and 8 touchdowns.

The Crimson Tide’s home game with the Aggies on Saturday night is set for a 7:30 (ET) kickoff and will be televised by the SEC Network.

It’s not expected to be much of a contest, however, as top-ranked Alabama is favored by nearly 6 touchdowns.

He tweaked his knee about a month ago… Hopefully he can recover with no Lingering issues..

I agree I hope he comes back 100%! If Texas accidentally becomes a shootout. It would be extremely important to have a capable TE!!! You wouldn’t want a shootout with only receivers. I know the Alabama defense is supposed to be really good. But that early anyone can have an off day!!! Thus making a game of it. I think the last thing Alabama wants or needs is a shootout vs Texas or anyone really!!! While I’m sure the offense will be good. I believe Alabama is hanging their championship hopes on defense this season!!! I personally think anyone including Georgia or Alabama needs both offense and defense to make a real run!!!

PS. Saban stay off the phone and leave our TE’s alone LOL!!! JK Sort of!! LOL

After Saban got commitments from the #1, #2 and #4 recruits in GA I can understand why you would want him to stay off the phone.

I think Kirby is going to answer that with James Smith, Tomarrion Parker, and AJ Harris(already committed) from the state of Alabama. Georgia just picked up the #1 player in South Carolina, Monroe Freeling.
